Greetings to all of our practitioners, first time visitors and friends! As we approach 2009, we offer a word of welcome, hope and comfort to all of the newcomers to our web site. . This past year has seen a tremendous growth in interest in Holographic Memory Resolution® and our pioneering work in the field of trauma resolution. As expected, we are seeing the expansion of HMR internationally, with workshops in Panama, Canada, England and/or Ireland as well as outreach that has made its way to the Congo. We continue to see rising interest in the study of trauma and renew our commitment to bring effective trauma resolution modalities like HMR into main-stream awareness in the health care field. I was deeply moved by the overwhelming response at the 10th International Conference for the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP), one of the two principal organizations fostering the expansion of the "Energy Psychology" field. The contribution that HMR offers to the field of Energy Psychology is profound and will greatly assist in the integration of this burgeoning field with traditional medicine.

I continue to spend part of my time in Arizona at Miraval, www.miravalresorts.com, the world's leading alternative health spa, located to the Northwest of Tucson. Dr. Andrew Weil is the Director of the Integrative Wellness Program which will have it's own facility by the winter of 2009, according to Michael Tompkins, the General Manager. In collaboration with Miraval, I am going to be offering my first 5-Day Retreats in February of 2009, an opportunity to experience the whole range of my work -- pulling together the themes of mind-mastery for health, memory/trauma resolution, conscious manifestation, and mystical oneness. Miraval and I are equally excited about this offering, after my eight years of work there. I have also had the privilege to continue the work I began with Wyatt Webb at Miraval by doing Equine Assisted Experiential Learning in conjunction with HMR through workshops offered in Taos, New Mexico. My dear friend Mimi Meriwether and I are excited at the fusion of these two modalities. This workshop can also be applied as one of the requirements (Healing Intensive) for certification in HMR. The lessons in energy sensitivity and the personal breakthroughs  that come during these workshops are impressive. Once again, we have new resources to help us learn to live fully in the present moment.

The growing interest in quantum physics, referenced in films like: “What the !!?*?!! Do We Know” and “The Secret,” has generated much popular interest in the field of memory resolution and drawn attention to the impact of the subconscious mind (especially memory) on our capacity to create our reality from a conscious level. As we have taught for the last fifteen years, intentionality is most profoundly impacted by trauma which inserts its own self-protective message into our subconscious mind, thereby redirecting our good intentions to its own protective ends.  The effective resolution of these distortions in consciousness restores our intentionality, reduces our stress levels and adrenaline overproduction, and empowers us to return to authentic intimacy. Freed from the constraints of the trauma-based ego, we begin to see our true potential for intimacy, success, health, and oneness with all that is.

As we approach the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, we renew our commitment to research and to the demonstration of the new resources that are available to release the impact of trauma on the bodymind. We near the completion of the software, based on the observation of over 14,000 trauma survivors, that allows us to precisely record the memory data of the bodymind, identify its patterns and sequences, and record the locations of this site-specific memory encoding. This data will allow us to examine the patterns that contribute to the emergence of pain, pathology, and the origins of many diseases, emotional and mental “disorders.” Even in its less-articulated forms, HMR permits the bodymind to map its own history and the precise memory sequencing that underlies much of our pain and illness. We hope to see the beta-testing of the software program that enables the recording of these memory sequences and their logical patterning by early 2009. The charity, Michael's Gift, is eager to see the research and delivery of HMR occur for the benefit of so many 'traumatized' populations in our world. It was a privilege for me to use HMR limitedly, but successfully on children in a cancer treatment center in Panama in 2008. Our goal is to see HMR recognized as one of the first techniques, bridging the somatic psychology and energy psychology fields, to prove its effectiveness in treating memory-based diseases and disorders.  In this next year we hope to measure the impact of HMR on traumatized individuals utilizing quantitative EEG’s, live blood studies, and measurement of the impact of HMR on the immune system. Some of our earliest indicators suggested significant improvement in those with fibromyalgia – an outcome consistent with the resolution of traumatic memory and the increased production of T-Cells that accompanies the decrease in the adrenaline overproduction of the “fight-flight-freeze” response. Our success with the treatment of trance-based pain such as that induced from the emotional and physical overwhelm of migraines, car accidents, etc., leaves us hopeful about the research efforts and the possibility of demonstrating the connections between emotional memory, trauma and physiology.

During these past 2 years, we have seen the growing interplay of HMR with other modalities such as the "Internal Family Systems Therapy" (of Richard Schwartz), Neuro-Linguistic Programming, hypnosis, and other body-centered, client-centered modalities. In May, we introduced HMR to the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ACEP, and began dialogue and demonstrated HMR to some of the senior members of ISSEEEM (International Society for the Study of Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine). ACEP and ISSSEEM are the two of the leading organizations that are helping us to introduce the new modalities within the burgeoning field of “Energy Psychology.” The body–centered nature of HMR also makes it the perfect bridge between "Energy Psychology"and what is coming to be termed: “Somatic Psychology.” The efficiency of HMR and its unique capacity to allow the body to precisely map and release the “emotional charge” of complex forms of somatic memory will prove a welcome addition within these emergent fields.  The principles underlying the verbal component of HMR make it a forerunner in the Somatic Psychology field, while the innovations and discoveries utilized with the biomagnetic field component proffer HMR as a breakthrough modality in the Energy Psychology field. The combination of the two components in one dynamic process create a highly effective modality for resolving trauma in the bodymind.

Among other developments with HMR is our growing affiliation with organizations that directly promote "Energy and Education." We are proud to announce that all of our principal trainings and individual Healing Intensives will be conducted out of a new location in the South Loup of Downtown Chicago:  "Equilibrium: Energy and Education," www.equilibrium-e3.com, located in the newly renovated Dearborn Train Station. Bernadette Doran has been so kind as to "design" a lovely training space for our HMR training workshops and Intensives. The availability of certified HMR practitioners should be doubling annually from this point forward, and we have seen our first certified practitioners in Ohio, New Hampshire, and Tennessee. Our goal has been to see a certified HMR practitioner in every major city within the next 4-6 years. Beginning in January 2009, we will also be offering a monthly supervision by conference call that permits all certified HMR practitioners and practitioners in training to discuss case studies and receive feedback and recommendations for addressing issues with complex clients. These supervisions will occur at the end of the first week of each month.  Our use of internet resources is also improving with the addition of several “list-serves” as already established in New Hampshire and Illinois for the exchange of information with other local practitioners, as well as discussion and review of HMR as applied to complex clients or those with various forms of “resistance.” The software, so long in development will be in its testing phase in early 2009 and will become available to certified practitioners by the latter part of 2009. It is internet, web-based and will permit extremely accurate recording of the HMR sessions as well as including other therapeutic resources for enhancing the treatment of the trauma survivor. The training manual has also been updated (as of October, 2008) and is available (for purchase at workshops for $30) to certified practitioners, previous trainees (of all three levels) and/or those re-taking training after more than a 1-year hiatus. You can also contact me through this web site for an updated manual, along with submission of a copy of your previous training certificate(s): my fax number is 520-529-5730. Level III content is only available after you have attended this training.

Our goal is to see the introduction of HMR at least one major conferences annually for the next few years. An additional point of interest is the collaboration of Healing Dimensions ACC with Ardean Calloway and the Inner Awareness Hypnosis Institute LLC (www.innerawarehypnosis.com) in Bloomingdale, Illinois. As of November 2007, Level I-II trainings (the 3-day process) constitute one of the four components in a now state-approved (Illinois) curriculum for certification in hypnosis. This permits those of you who are considering a career change, looking for licensure for the practice of HMR (only if the practice of hypnosis is recognized/approved by your own state), or those interested in adding hypnosis as a resource to your “tool belt,” a vehicle for gaining basic hypnosis skills (in accord with the approved curriculum of the National Guild of Hypnotists – NGH, which offers the certification). Those having already attended the Level I-II training in HMR will received a significant discount off of the training fee, though you may have to attend a “re-take” (at no charge) if you attended the HMR Level I-II  training prior to Jan. 1, 2007. The discount is the equivalent of one quarter of the fee for certification in hypnosis, as HMR constitutes this portion of the approved curriculum.

To those of you familiar with HMR, this alliance comes as no surprise. Over 7 years ago, in discussions with Dr. Mariko Tanaka at San Francisco State University, she commented that HMR “seems to have found the missing ‘body component’ that David Cheek and Milton Erickson spoke of.” I was not overly surprised to discover that Erickson and Cheek (his protégé) had discussed just such a somatic component that would enhance or accelerate the effectiveness of any “trance-based” work. Though I hesitate to call HMR a form of “hypnosis,” it certainly works upon the principle that trauma induces a trance or “spontaneous state of self-hypnosis” as David Cheek stated, which highlights the need for the client to actually “de-hypnotize” him/herself from this pain state. This occurs most easily when sufficient safety and resources are provided. HMR is remarkable in its capacity to induce safety and allow the client’s own self-talk to remove him/herself from the pain state induced at the millisecond of encoding (a moment we now call “T-1”). In addition, my discovery of the C-7 (rear of the spine) access point in 1994, which greatly enhances sensory access to trance/memory, fits very appropriately into the category of “limited tactile induction” which constitutes part of the NGH approved curriculum of training for hypnotists (utilizing hand, elbow, shoulder, and forehead optional points of contact). Hence, on several accounts, the relationship between hypnosis and HMR is mutually advantageous. Since HMR prides itself on being at the vanguard of body-centered, client-centered trauma resolution therapies, it is considered by some to be one of the most promising advances in the application of hypnosis to cases involving traumatic memory. This emotional reframing process which utilizes the client’s own exact language and brainwave frequencies to achieve resolution, largely eliminates the possibility of ‘leading’ as evidenced in cases of ‘false memory,’ or of “abreaction” which can occur if a the trance is prematurely or too deeply accessed. HMR has been well received by the hypnosis, somatic psychology, and energy psychology communities. Dr. Andrew Weil’s referral of his medical residents from the Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Arizona attests to the adaptability of HMR to both traditional and non-traditional or “integrative” medical communities.

For those of you frustrated with access to books, CD’s, workshops, scheduling intensive work or individual sessions with me, you will be pleased to note that through an agreement with mindbodyonline.com, my own web site will provide enhanced internet access to these resources:  you can purchase books, CD’s, the new Living As Light Workbook, replacement training manuals, etc., and you can also sign up online for many of our workshops and trainings. To sign up for workshops, you can to to the HMR section of the Equilibrium website at www.equilibrium-e3.com and sign up for any of the intensives or trainings in 2009. Note, for those of you who prefer the personal touch are not so internet inclined, there is now a single nation-wide contact number for scheduling individual HMR sessions or intensive work with me at: 847-372-8894.  For those of you who live by the internet, you can still reach me at abunah@comcast.net.

As many of you know, the end of 2007 saw the completion and publication of my new book: Living As Light: The Awakening of Mystical Consciousness.  In this new book I was able to delve more deeply into the meaning and impact of trauma and our ability to pause our states of consciousness. In this effort I was able to articulate the heart of the trauma resolution process and its profound impact on personal, spiritual development. Having covered the technical and scientific background in my first book, I was free to extrapolate and explore the implications of clearing our energy fields of the density and burden of trauma. In the healing of our memories comes the potential for mystical intimacy and heightened sensitivity to all of our interactions with the world around us. I am very grateful to Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse who wrote the preface for the book and was so supportive of its message and content.

As we move forward into 2009, I am glad to announce the much requested Living As Light Workbook that accompanies the Living as Light text. The workbook can be ordered from the “store” and will be shipped to you promptly upon request. In the workbook are the exercises which correspond to each chapter and enable you to internalize and apply the principles of ‘how to’ live as Light.  With these resources in place, we move more easily into our next personal and collective stage of evolution.

While we are committed to delivering HMR to the clinical and medical communities, we remain firm in the notion that this emotional reframing process is natural to our systems and reveals the inherent potential of each of us to heal ourselves. Our goal is to see the simpler aspects of HMR become routine parenting skills whereby parents may nurture and sustain their children in such a manner that they remain largely free of the damaging effects of trauma and its painful imprints in the bodymind. Without the psychological attraction to drugs and medicating experiences, predisposed by the presence of trauma left unaddressed in the bodymind, these children will bear a more natural resistance to the temptations of drugs, alcohol, and other synthetic mood altering experiences. Living from a place of balance, they will find these experiences to be disconcerting and debilitating, rather than soothing of the trauma instilled pain that would have predisposed them for addiction and attachment to these unhealthy substances. Our goal is to see the children, largely free of encoded trauma by the end of their second seven year cycle – that is, by age fourteen. Our goals include delivery of HMR to educational systems, parents, and the children themselves. Some children now routinely reframe their day using color to release any accumulated stress or trauma.

As I continue to witness the evolution of HMR, I find greater hope in our future and our capacity to transform our world and its systems. The experience of our own personal healing clears the way for us to release our attachment to the codependent solutions that have marked our evolution to this point: war, drugs, incarceration, and dissociation. While the mechanism of dissociation has served to keep us alive to this point in our evolution, we have come to the brink of polarization and stretched the old “moral responsibility model” to its limit – inspiring the new paradigm shift that I describe in my new book. The political, medical, educational, financial, religious, military, and family systems have reached their limit in offering us healing via the “moral willpower” model and its exhortations to change. What remains is the efficacy of the trauma resolution model, founded on the protective wisdom inherent in our DNA, offering us the option to learn mastery of our states of consciousness and to cease the compulsivity which arises from merely dismissing our traumas and our pain. In the mastery of our ninety-three percent subconscious minds is the key to personal and global peace.

I marvel at the lesson that we are about to behold. What seemed beyond us and was labeled “miraculous” is part and parcel of our nature and our inherent wisdom. Each day I am privileged to witness such miracles through this healing process. Most remarkable is the manner in which the bodymind of the client assumes control of the process directing both client and facilitator to the sites of the encoded traumas, all the while, following a logic that maps the pathology, sites and directs us to the exact solutions that “complete” our outdated images encoded at the moment of trauma. In the healing of such moments, our physiology changes – beginning its reversal of the genetic accumulation of traumatic imprints and messages that we have gleaned in our one and half million years (at least) upon this planet. As we learn to love ourselves at each moment of our existence, we will see the emergence of a new understanding of human potential, our capacity to transform our world, and our interconnectedness to All That Is. The healing of many of our illnesses will come as side-effect of this greater transformation; enlightenment will also come – our primary goal!

I invite you to explore and listen to the whispers of your heart and your dreams. As you embrace this invitation to empowerment, may you come to know the peace and healing that flows freely when you open yourself to the Truth that resides with the very fabric of your being. Enjoy the journey.

                                                                        Eternal Light,

                                                                                  Brent Michael Baum
